Can you go on an African Safari with your children? Yes! In 2021 with the latest weather? Yes! This is your best chance to observe wildlife when far fewer tourists flock to prime destinations to observe Jeep safaris. The best months are until September.

Malaria is an obvious problem, more than recently with regard to children. Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe offer spectacular wildlife views and many houses are suitable for families. And although traveling during the winter months (June to September) reduces the peril of malaria, because mosquitoes are less active during the cold season, there is still a peril to be taken into account.

Like their parents, children in areas where malaria is present must take antimalarial drugs. Your doctor can advise you which antimalarial medication is best for your child. Many of these drugs have a bitter taste, but the pharmacist can crush the capsules and put the powder in the gelatin capsule. The antimalarial drug is not 100% effective and other health problems are also transmitted by insects, that is, children (and their parents!) insect bites should be avoided even if you are taking malaria medication.

If you agree with the malaria prevention of your children, the Kottar camp of the 1920s in Kenya is great: you not only have family tents, but also an exceptional mansion in the bushes; the only drawback is that it is difficult to walk! In Tanzania, I recommend the Four Seasons Serengeti for a Safari, and it ends on Mnemba Island for barefoot opulence.

In Botswana, children love canoeing in the Okavango Delta and will be fascinated by the crowd of elephants in Chobe. Family homes include Chilwero Sanctuary, Linyanti Ebony and the recently redeveloped Camp Jack, which offers quad bike tours, Bushman tours, desert safaris and Meerkat tours.

In Zambia and Zimbabwe, the Victoria Falls are breathtaking and are a must for children and matures. Stay at Tongabezi Lodge in an ideal niche for a family holiday. My selection of family safaris is Robin House, Bumi Hills and Singita pamushana, where children can participate in the mini ranger lodge program and participate in various activities, ranging from cooking classes to arts and crafts.

Malaria-free Africa

For malaria-free adventures, Namibia and South Africa are two of the best places, as they have malaria-free reserves, as well as many other things to offer-the impressive Sossusvleigh sand dunes, Cape Town and the Garden route are obvious attractions. You can also experience a Sea Safari where you can observe cetaceans from August to November; penguins, sharks and seals can also be seen.

Enjoy breathtaking views from Table peak, explore the Cape Peninsula by bike or on foot, go kayaking with penguins, marvel at the unique landscapes of Garden Road, Stellenbosch and Franchuk, the Mecca of gourmets!

In Namibia, Etosha is the ideal place for a Safari, as the lack of foliage makes it easier to observe wildlife. The sand dunes of Saussusvley have already been mentioned and are worth a visit, as is Fish River Canyon in the South for cultural hikes and scuba diving among Himba nomads in the North. In in the middle of, the picturesque Swakopmund retains its German heritage and is an ideal base for sandboarding and kayaking.

Horseback safari with children

Do your children like to ride? Embark on a horseback Safari with the children among wild animals such as giraffes and zebras. Junior or beginner riders are assigned only to racehorses, while if they are advanced riders, they can jump on the grass with trained guides at hand.

There is nothing to worry about, because there are no large or potentially harmful animals in the parks where horseback riding is allowed.

Accommodation in South Africa

Our favorite Safari houses with children are Tswalu in the vast Kalahari (you can also sleep on an elevated platform under the stars during one of your nights for a typical Safari), Ulusaba Sir Richard Branson (not malaria-free) in Sabi Sands (one of the best places to see an elusive leopard and an endangered wild dog) and

Give it importance

Beyond an incredible opulence Safari, your family can make a difference in the disadvantaged communities of South Africa, such as feeding the hungry, participating in construction projects, renovating a day center and teaching English, Mathematics and science. In Kenya, you can help install ecological stoves, in Zambia, you can build a house for a widow and her children, and in Namibia, you can help keep elephants adapted to the desert by digging new water sources for them, away from human settlements and associated conflicts.

You will connect even more with your children and you will get closer to them who appreciate your happiness and you will be able to go home with memories of meaningful interaction and commitment
